Departmental Personal Web Pages
Instructions and Policies

Who?
Everyone who has a biosystems Novell user id, including undergraduate and graduate students may have a personal web page maintained on the departmental Web server.

Where?
All users should have a U: drive mapping. Any files that you put in this directory will be accessible through the internet. Other people will be able to access them, but will not be able to change their content.

How?
Create a home page called "index.htm". This will be the first page that shows up when someone browses to your web site. Your url will be "http://biosystems.okstate.edu/home/user-id" where user-id is your Novell user id.

There are a number programs for making Web pages. An easy way to create simple pages is to use Word 97. Just use the word processor and Save as HTML. Powerpoint 97 will create a Web based presentation very easily. Likewise, the newest version of Netscape contains a HTML editor.

How much?
Students have a 10 MB space limit. Faculty have a 30 MB limit. Anyone who needs more space can talk to Craig or Paul and your request will be considered on a case by case basis. We are limiting the amount of space due to the small available storage on the hard drive. We hope to change that in the near future.

What?
Your web pages may contain personal material if you like. Family photos, links to your favorite sites and comments on school or national events are all acceptable. However, your web pages cannot contain any illegal, offensive or commercial material.

Help?
A beginners guide to HTML is published at http://www.ncsa.uiuc.edu/General/Internet/WWW/HTMLPrimerAll.html.

If you have any questions please feel free to email Dr. Brown or go by his office, Room 219, in the afternoons.

Have fun!
