September 10, 2008: Macropore/E. Coli Study Highlighted in ASABE’s Resource Magazine
See pages 22-24 of the September 2008 issue of Resource for an
article describing the macropore-facilitated E. coli transport project with Iowa State University and the
USDA-ARS National Soil Tilth Laboratory.
August 11, 2008: Fuchs and Fox Co-Authors on Accepted
Manuscript
John Fuchs and Garey Fox are co-authors on a manuscript
entitled “Subsurface Transport of Phosphorus in Riparian Floodplains:
Influence of Preferential Flow Pathways” recently accepted for
publication in the Journal of Environmental Quality. Co-authors on this
paper include Dan Storm and Glenn Brown in Biosystems Engineering and Chad
Penn in Plant and Soil Sciences at OSU.
July 4, 2008: Chu-Agor, Cancienne, and Fox Co-Authors on
Accepted Manuscript (30th Peer-Reviewed Journal Publication)
Maria Chu-Agor, Garey Fox, and Rachel Cancienne are co-authors
on a manuscript entitled “Seepage Caused Tension Failures and Erosion
Undercutting of Hillslopes” recently accepted for publication in the
Journal of Hydrology. This manuscript is the 30th peer-reviewed
journal article for Garey Fox. Link

July 2, 2008: Fuchs wins 2008 ASABE Graduate Student Paper
Contest
John Fuchs (M.S. graduate in May 2008) won the 2008 ASABE
Graduate Student Research Award at the Annual International Meeting for his
paper titled “Subsurface Transport of Phosphorus in Riparian
Floodplains: Tracer and Phosphorus Transport Experiments”.
June 5, 2008: Miller joins Research Group
Ron Miller accepted a position within the research group as a Ph.D.
student. Ron will be working towards a Ph.D. in Environmental Science and
working on the subsurface phosphorus transport study.
June 1, 2008: Fox to present in Special Centennial Session
Research activities of the team will be highlighted in a special
symposium at the 2008 ASABE International Meeting. The session is being
organized by Dr. Wayne Skaggs and is titled “Centennial Session on
Advances in Soil and Water Engineering” (Monday, June 30th,
9:30 AM to 12:00 PM). Presentations will be given by:

Publication Highlighted in Virtual Issue
A 2007 publication in Earth Surface Processes and Landforms
(Fox et al., 2007, Measuring streambank erosion due to ground water
seepage: Correlation to bank pore water pressure, precipitation, and stream
stage. Earth Surface Processes and Landforms 32(10): 1558-1573) was
included in a Virtual Issue, “a collection of Water Resources hot
papers that have been compiled in an online special issue” (June 2008)

May 28, 2008: Fuchs Accepts Consulting Position
John Fuchs (M.S. graduate in May 2008) has accepted a position
with Grubbs, Hoskyn, Barton, and Wyatt, Inc., a geotechnical and materials
engineering consulting firm, in Little
Rock, AR.
April 28, 2008: Cancienne Accepts Consulting Position
Rachel Cancienne (M.S. graduate in May 2008) has accepted a
position with Philip Williams and Associates in Sacramento, CA as a
hydrologist/hydraulic engineer.
April 10, 2008: Fuchs Passes Thesis Defense
John Fuchs (M.S. student) successfully passed his oral
examination and defended his thesis for his Master of Science degree. His
thesis is titled “Subsurface Transport of Phosphorus in Riparian
Floodplains: Tracer and Phosphorus Transport Experiments”.
April 7, 2008: Cancienne Passes Thesis Defense
Rachel Cancienne (M.S. student) successfully passed her oral
examination and defended her thesis for her Master of Science degree. Her
thesis is titled “Stability of Root Reinforced Streambanks: Numerical
Modeling and Laboratory Experiments”.
March 12, 2008: Heeren Joins Research Group as Research
Engineer
Derek Heeren (M.S. student at South Dakota State
University) has accepted
the position of Research Engineer. Derek is planning to start at Oklahoma
State University
on May 31, 2008.

October 24, 2007: Students Win Poster Competition
John Fuchs was the co-winner of the 2007 Student Poster
Contest at the 5th Annual Oklahoma Water Resources Research
Institute Water Symposium. John’s poster was titled “Potential
for the Subsurface Transport of Phosphorus in Riparian Floodplains: Tracer
and Phosphorus Transport Experiments”. Rachel Cancienne and Maria
Chu-Agor placed second for their poster on “Soil Block Experiments
Investigating Three-Dimensional Seepage Erosion Phenomena”.
August 17, 2007: Akay Passes Dissertation Defense
Onur Akay successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation.

August 10, 2007: Guzman Joins Research Team
Jorge Guzman joined the Department as a new graduate research
assistant (Ph.D.) working on the USDA CSREES funded project, “Role of
Directly Connected Macropores on Pathogen Transport to Subsurface
Drainage.”
August 1, 2007: Akay Accepts a Consulting Position
Onur Akay has accepted a position with PBS&J in Las Vegas,
NV. He will be defending his Ph.D. dissertation in Oxford, MS
on August 17th.
June 22, 2007: Chu-Agor wins 2007 ASABE Graduate Student
Paper Contest
Maria Chu-Agor (Ph.D. student) won the 2007 ASABE Graduate
Student Research Award and was recognized at the 2007 Annual International
Meeting in Minneapolis,
MN. Her paper, titled “Numerical
Modeling of Bank Instability by Seepage Erosion”, was selected as the
top Ph.D. paper after written and oral competitions.
