October 5, 2009: Heeren, Miller, and Carson Winners at the
2009 Oklahoma Water Research Symposium Poster Contest
Congratulations to Derek Heeren (Ph.D. Student), Ron Miller
(Ph.D. Student), and Rachel Carson (Undergraduate) for recognition as three
of the top five posters at the 2009 Oklahoma Water Research Symposium.
August 15, 2009: Chu-Agor and Fox Co-Authors on Accepted
Journal Manuscript in Journal of
Hydrology
Maria Chu-Agor, recent Ph.D. graduate, and Garey Fox are
co-authors on a manuscript recently accepted for publication in the Journal
of Hydrology titled “Empirical Sediment Transport Function Predicting
Seepage Erosion Undercutting for Cohesive Bank Failure Prediction”. A
co-author on the paper was Dr. Glenn Wilson (USDA-ARS, National
Sedimentation Laboratory).

June 26, 2009: Research Team Receives Awards at ASABE Annual
International Meeting
Maria Chu-Agor, Ph.D., placed 2nd in the Ph.D.
category of the 2009 Boyd-Scott Graduate Student Research Competition for
her paper and oral presentation on seepage erosion of streambank sediment.
Rachel Carson, a 2008-2009 Woolpert Scholar, won 1st place in the
Undergraduate Poster Competition for her poster on downstream channel
erosion due to detention basin releases using BSTEM. Congratulations Maria
and Rachel!
June 10, 2009: Guzman and Fox Co-Authors on Accepted Journal
Manuscript
Jorge Guzman, a Ph.D. student, and Garey Fox are co-authors on
a manuscript recently accepted for publication in the Journal of
Environmental Quality titled “Escherichia
coli transport from surface applied manure to subsurface drains through
artificial biopores”. Co-authors on the paper included Rob Malone
(USDA-ARS National Soil Tilth Laboratory) and Ramesh Kanwar (Department
Head, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, Iowa State University).

May 20, 2009: Maria Chu-Agor a Finalist for Boyd-Scott
Graduate Student Research Award
Maria Chu-Agor (Ph.D. Student) is a finalist for the 2009 Boyd-Scott
Graduate Student Research Award for the Ph.D. level based on results from
the written component of the contest. Maria will now compete in the oral
portion of the competition to determine placing of the top three finalists.
Maria was the winner of the 2007 Ph.D. competition.
May 16, 2009: Maria Chu-Agor awarded a Graduate College
Research Fellowship for Summer 2009.
March 23, 2009: Garbrecht, Fox, and Guzman Co-Authors on an
Accepted Journal Manuscript
Karl Garbrecht, a 2007-2008 Woolpert Undergraduate Scholar,
Garey Fox, and Jorge Guzman, Ph.D. student, are co-authors on a manuscript
recently accepted for publication in Transactions of the ASABE titled
“E. coli transport through
soil columns: Implications for bioretention cell removal efficiency”.
A co-author on the paper was Don Alexander with Woolpert, Inc, who served
as the Woolpert mentor for Karl’s research project.
March 12, 2009: Jorge Guzman a Winner in the 20th Annual OSU
Research Symposium Presentations
Jorge Guzman placed 2nd in the graduate student
research presentations in the Physical Sciences and Technology category for
his presentation on E. coli
transport through soil macropores.
October 30, 2008: Undergraduate Research Scholar places 2nd
at Oklahoma Water Research Symposium Student Poster Contest
Karl Garbrecht, a 2007-2008 Woolpert Undergraduate Scholar,
won 2nd place for his poster titled “Pathogen Transport
through Soils: Evaluation of Bioretention Cell Removal Efficiency” at
the 2008 Oklahoma Water Research Symposium.
September 10, 2008: Macropore/E. Coli Study Highlighted in ASABE’s Resource Magazine
See pages 22-24 of the September 2008 issue of Resource for an
article describing the macropore-facilitated E. coli transport project with Iowa State University and the
USDA-ARS National Soil Tilth Laboratory.
August 11, 2008: Fuchs and Fox Co-Authors on Accepted
Manuscript
John Fuchs and Garey Fox are co-authors on a manuscript
entitled “Subsurface Transport of Phosphorus in Riparian Floodplains:
Influence of Preferential Flow Pathways” recently accepted for
publication in the Journal of
Environmental Quality. Co-authors on this paper include Dan Storm and
Glenn Brown in Biosystems Engineering and Chad Penn in Plant and Soil
Sciences at OSU.
July 4, 2008: Chu-Agor, Cancienne, and Fox Co-Authors on
Accepted Manuscript (30th Peer-Reviewed Journal Publication)
Maria Chu-Agor, Garey Fox, and Rachel Cancienne are co-authors
on a manuscript entitled “Seepage Caused Tension Failures and Erosion
Undercutting of Hillslopes” recently accepted for publication in the
Journal of Hydrology. This manuscript is the 30th peer-reviewed
journal article for Garey Fox. Link

July 2, 2008: Fuchs wins 2008 ASABE Graduate Student Paper
Contest
John Fuchs (M.S. graduate in May 2008) won the 2008 ASABE
Graduate Student Research Award at the Annual International Meeting for his
paper titled “Subsurface Transport of Phosphorus in Riparian
Floodplains: Tracer and Phosphorus Transport Experiments”.
June 5, 2008: Miller joins Research Group
Ron Miller accepted a position within the research group as a
Ph.D. student. Ron will be working towards a Ph.D. in Environmental Science
and working on the subsurface phosphorus transport study.
June 1, 2008: Fox to present in Special Centennial Session
Research activities of the team will be highlighted in a
special symposium at the 2008 ASABE International Meeting. The session is being
organized by Dr. Wayne Skaggs and is titled “Centennial Session on
Advances in Soil and Water Engineering” (Monday, June 30th,
9:30 AM to 12:00 PM). Presentations will be given by:

A 2007 publication in Earth Surface Processes and Landforms
(Fox et al., 2007, Measuring streambank erosion due to ground water
seepage: Correlation to bank pore water pressure, precipitation, and stream
stage. Earth Surface Processes and Landforms 32(10): 1558-1573) was
included in a Virtual Issue, “a collection of Water Resources hot
papers that have been compiled in an online special issue” (June
