The Stored Product Research and Education Center (SPREC) will be dedicated at 2:00 PM on October 11, 2001. SPREC is a grain and bulk products storage research, education and tech-transfer facility dedicated to developing and testing applied methods of storing grain for Oklahoma and the Southern Region of the U.S. The facility will be used for applied grain industry training and technology transfer schools including Oklahoma Grain Elevator Workshops, Grain Grading Schools, Fumigation Workshops, and other training programs.

SPREC was partially funded by a USDA grant of $490,000. Additional private contributions came from the Oklahoma and national grain industry, and allied support industries. Finally, the Oklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station provided matching funds for the $1.2 million facility.

President James Halligan will be the primary speaker from OSU with short presentations by Dean Curl, Dr. Coston, representatives of the Oklahoma grain elevator and wheat producers associations, the grain chemical industries and other major supporters of SPREC.

Dr. Dirk E. Maier, Extension Agricultural Engineer and Director of the Post Harvest Education and Research Center (PHERC), Purdue University, W. Lafayette, will give a short keynote address on the potential for development of applied technology at facilities like SPREC, PHERC and the new stored grain research center at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB, Canada.
